Ah smiling. Smiling is my favorite. Yes, I know I sound like Buddy the Elf.

I just cannot help it. I’ve always been insanely positive that things will work out the way they were meant to, before I brought Heavenly Father into my life. I thought that even if things were going poorly in my life, if I could put a smile on for long enough I’d believe it.

One of things I loved most when investigating the Church was a scripture some missionaries had shared with me. It’s from 2 Nephi Chapter 9. In this chapter, Jacob explains the Atonement of Jesus Christ. The scripture says,

O, my beloved brethren, remember the awfulness in transgressing against that Holy God, and also the awfulness of yielding to the enticings of that cunning one. Remember, to be carnally-minded is death, and to be spiritually-minded is life eternal.

The end is what gets me. To be carnally-minded or of the world is death. Not just physical death but a spiritual one. But the last few words are what spoke to me, to be spiritually-minded is life eternal. I think this is completely intentional on behalf of our Heavenly Father. 3e633123d134b1057d90b3297b8bee0d

Always remember to smile. Having faith and preserving is what will lead to ultimate happiness. The happiness I felt before joining the church is nothing in comparison to what I am experiencing now.

I think Heavenly Father knows each one of us personally and I think there is a reason the missionaries shared this particular scripture with me. He knew this is something I needed to hear and that I am a firm believer in smiling.

It is moments like these in the scriptures that solidify my belief that I made the right choice to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It has only made me smile, my husband smile, and our Heavenly Father smile.

So readers, always smile. Even when it’s hard keep smiling. I promise the pay off is worth it in the end.
